Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market – July 14, 2018

Dear Friends of Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market:

It is going to be a beautiful day at the Market!  Come early to get the best of the Market offerings, stay for a little while and enjoy the music, snacks, & neighbors.  See you at the Market.

Thanks for shopping at the Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market, but PLEASE SUPPORT our local full-time groceries during the rest of the week, especially Best World Supermarket.  It is a treasure to have a small, full service supermarket in MtP, but you must shop & support it.  It can only get better if you support it.  Don’t let Best World AND Don Juan’s get replaced.  Come talk to us at the Farmers’ Market table on the Plaza stage to learn more about the community’s efforts to support Best World.

Blueberry Cherry Pie  –  Let’s indulge in a recipe from the kitchen at Reid’s Orchard.  It’s summer, we all can appreciate a sweet treat. (And if you go visit Reid’s Winery, it would pair perfectly with some of their hard ciders!)

Ingredients:

Pastry for 9 inch double-crust pie

1/2 cup sugar

1/3 cup flour

1 tsp. grated lemon zest

1/2 tsp. cinnamon

2 cups blueberries

2 cups fresh sweet cherries- pitted and halved (or raspberries, pitted sour cherries or peaches)

2 tsp. lemon juice

2 tbsp. unsalted butter or margarine

Preheat the oven to 450 degrees. Prepare the pie pastry, line the pie pan with the bottom crust, using half the dough.

Combine the sugar, flour, lemon zest and cinnamon. Add the berries, cherries and lemon juice. Mix well. Turn the filling into the crust and dot with butter. Roll out the top crust and lay it on the filling. Trim off any excess dough, crimp the edges and prick top crust with the tines of a fork to vent.

Bake at 450 degrees for 10 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees and bake 30 minutes more or until golden brown.

Moscow Mule (for host country Russia), and Persian Rose (for Iran).  Stop by the Market this weekend to see if you can get your hands on these winning flavors, and help us figure out which one is the real champion.  Cheers!  Stop by and see what looks good this weekend.
