Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market – June 10, 2017

Dear Friends of Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market:

 

It is gonna be another beautiful day at the Market, summer is really coming.  Come early to get the best of the Market, stay and enjoy the music, snacks, & neighbors.

Market Events:

 

Bike Clinic –  Our volunteer bike technicians will be out to help you fix your flats and other mysterious bike problems.    10a – 1p.

 

 

Music:  9-11a –  Lamont Street Deluxe – Dualing accordions!  Accordion duo Lamont Park Deluxe will play a variety of international folk songs and dances, old standards, and a few surprises.

11-1p –  The Fiddler Raycurt Johnson on violin (& guitarist guest?)

 

826DC – dedicated to supporting students ages 6 to 18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write, they will have activities for children & parents.  http://826dc.org

What’s Coming to Market:

 

Earth Spring Farm:  This week we will have greens! Kale, Swiss chard, lettuce, spring onions, strawberries, farm fresh pastured Non-GMO eggs from our farm, and fresh grass-fed milk from Apple Valley Creamery.  Come see us early.  earthspringcsa.com

 

Truck Patch Farm:   Last week for strawberries and asparagus! New this week: snow peas, zucchini, and summer squash!  Truck Patch Farm will also have arugula, mesclun salad mix, spinach, kale, eggs, fresh whole chicken and parts, including bone-in breasts, and pork; including chops, ribs, roasts, bacon, and a variety of sausage flavors! www.truckpatchfarms.com

Groff’s Content Farm:  We will have fresh duck at Market!  We also have some new grassfed beef bologna and snack sticks made without preservatives or added nitrates.  As one customer said, they are weirdly good; I personally can’t stop eating them.  Kind of summer sausage-like would be great on crackers if you can get them that far.  We have lots of ground beef and bacon for the perfect grassfed bacon cheese burger paired with cheese from Spring Gap Mountain of course.  Also Bratwurst and keilbasa which are outstanding grilled on a bun topped with Number 1 Sons sauerkraut.   www.groffscontentfarm.com

 

Spring Gap Mountain:  Our delightful cheese monger will be bringing Shenandoah Sunrise Tomme, Jersey Gold Gouda, Sophie’s Select Cheddar, Farmhouse Feta, West Virginia Blue, Bloomery Camembert and lightly salted cultured butter.  www.springgapmtn.com

Community Events:

 

Mount Pleasant Block Party – A fun-filled, family-friendly morning with face painting, a moon bounce, arts & crafts and food! The event is free and we will be accepting donations on behalf of Bancroft Elementary PTO.  1700 Block of Lamont St. Saturday, June 10th, 10:30am – 1p.

 

Yard Sales – Ma Irving is hosting a BIG yard sale tomorrow, June 10th starting at 10am, 1825 Irving St, and will have everything from furniture, household appliances, books, clothing, and more!  Please stop by to peruse or simply to chat.  No offer is too small!  Also another yard sale at 3144 17th St.

 

Saturday Morning Yoga – Start your Saturdays with Carol, Marjorie and some relaxing, stress-free yoga.  Everyone is welcome, beginners especially!  Please wear comfortable clothing and bring water.  Bring your own yoga mat or use one of theirs.  10am, MtP Library

 

Saturday Book Sale  –  Come by the library every Saturday, from 11-2p, for weekly Friends of the Mt. Pleasant Library book sales. The Friends room is up on the 2nd floor across from the entrance to the Children’s Room.

 

10th Annual City-Wide Truck Touch  –  The event will feature a variety of free activities for kids and adults. A host of DC government agencies will present and demonstrate nearly 30 vehicles used to clean and repair streets, change traffic lights, collect refuse, clear snow, provide emergency services, administer mobile health care, and more. Free boxed lunches will be provided to kids age 18 and under.  –Saturday, June 10, 9am – 2 pm, RFK Stadium, Lot 7 (2400 East Capitol Street, SE – vehicles can enter off of Benning Road, NE)

 

Farmers’ Market Brigade  –  Help the DC Greens Farmers’ Market Brigade and DC farmers’ markets increase fresh food access across the city!  Through the Produce Plus Program, qualified customers are eligible to receive up to $20 each week to purchase fresh produce from local farmers.

 

Interested volunteers will need to sign up for a Farmers’ Market Brigade training in May and plan to…

Commit to 5 market shifts (or more!) between June and September

Distribute Produce Plus checks at farmers’ markets

Provide excellent customer care to all farmers’ market shoppers

All volunteers, including returning Brigade members, must sign up for a 2017 training in order to volunteer at a market shift:  dcgreens.org/brigade/
