Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market – 12/17/16

Dear Friends of the Mount Pleasant Farmers’ Market,

 

It is the last market of the season folks.  Thank you all for your support this year!  2016 in general has been eventful and stressful, but we hope the market brought a bit of happiness and fun to your year.  We wish you all a very happy holidays!  We will be back on April 1st, 2017!

 

Market Events:

 

Bike Clinic – Too cold, and our volunteer bike technicians gotta finish their holiday shopping.  They will be back in April.  Learn how to do your own adjustments and maintenance.  Helpers wanted.  Want help others solve their bike issues?  Join our team!  Stop by for more details.

 

Tin Lizzy Mobile Boutique – Check all the ladies off of your holiday shopping list with Tin Lizzy Mobile Boutique this weekend. Tin Lizzy is bringing a truck load of ethically made women’s clothing and accessories that make great gifts for friends, family and yourself!

 

Strut Truck – More holiday fashions.  Don’t bother with the malls and big boxes, great unique gifts are at the Market.

 

Music –  Gabriel Dunsmith, on mountain dulcimer will close out the Market season if it is not too wet & cold.

Atwater Bakery: Will have their famous Sunflower flax bread as well as two special loafs–scalded caraway rye and sunflower flax, almond coconut macaroons, lemon and ginger pound cakes, apple pocket pies, and winter time flavors of their award-winning French preserve-style jams.  atwaters.biz/

 

Groff’s Content Farm:  Our butcher will have whole chickens, chicken breasts, chicken wings, various types of sausage, and free range hen and duck eggs.  They have also recently gotten a grant that has helped them expand to prepared meals; come by and see this week’s selections! www.groffscontentfarm.com

No.1 Sons:  Whether you’re eating it with a pork chop, on your eggs in the morning or sprinkling some sauer onto your salad…it’s kraut season!  Popular Garlic Dill kraut returns this weekend! We will have a Thanksgiving Kraut with apples + sage shortly afterward. Clean Kraut is still fermenting in barrels, but we’ll have four other types of kraut!  Speaking of apples, our cubed radish kimchi (kkakdugi) is getting a healthy mix-in of local apples, too. ZooLights – More than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LED lights transform the Zoo into a winter wonderland complete with a dazzling light show set to music!  A free event that includes live music performances, tasty winter treats, and plenty of opportunities for holiday shopping.  Now through Sunday, January 1, 2017, 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the Zoo!

 

The 2016 Georgetown GLOW invites visitors to re-imagine the season of light through outdoor public art.  Now in its third year, 2016’s Georgetown GLOW is running nightly  through Sunday, January 1, with works lit from 6 – 10 p.m. nightly.  The 2016 exhibition encourages contemplation of, and interaction with, the natural environment. Each work has an element of interactivity allowing the viewer to walk in, on, and around the piece; while other works ask the viewer become part of the artwork. Commissioned works of local, regional and international artists will be featured throughout Georgetown’s commercial district, including along the historic C&O Canal, Georgetown Waterfront Park, Grace Church, Washington Harbour and Wisconsin Avenue.  Georgetown GLOW is presented by the Georgetown Business Improvement District.

 

Season’s Greenings  – The US Botanic Garden gets decked out for the holidays thanks to this annual exhibit featuring a model train exhibit running through 45 plant-based models of national parks and historic places like the Grand Canyon, the Statue of Liberty and many more.  Inside the Conservatory you’ll also find the garden’s collection of DC’s iconic landmarks, one of the city’s largest indoor Christmas trees and a showcase of poinsettias.  This year’s theme celebrates the National Park Service Centennial and is open now through Jan. 2 (10 a.m.-5 p.m.), and will stay open until 8 p.m. with holiday concerts most Tuesday and Thursday evenings in December.  100 Maryland Ave SW

 

Downtown Holiday Market – The 12th Annual Downtown Holiday Market is located on the F Street sidewalk in front of the Smithsonian American Art Museum & National Portrait Gallery between 7th & 9th Sts, NW. Bringing a unique and festive shopping “village” to the heart of Downtown DC, the market features more than 150 regional artisans, crafters and boutique businesses of ethnically produced goods.   It will run continuously through Friday, December 23.  Hours will be from Noon to 8 pm each day.
