Happy Thanksgiving!

Its the last market before the big T-day.  The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market has everything you need to make your dinner, party, gala, event a scrumptious success.  This will also probably be the last week for many of our vegetables and for our cheese monger.  If you are looking for some last minute recipes, there is a fantastic article in the New York Times this week featuring classic recipes from across the United States.  From the Mount Pleasant Farmers Market to all of you, we are thankful for your continued support and patronage and we hope you all have a wonderful, delicious, and warm Thanksgiving!

UPDATES FROM FARMERS AND FOODIES:

People’s Bao: Peter has Chinese steamed buns with shittake mushrooms, tender, slow roasted free range heritage pork or duck. Also available are hot Asian soups to enjoy at the market or cold to take home.  This week Peter will also have duck soup in a jar for $9.  The soup consists of duck bone broth, duck meat, ginger, onion, lemongrass, organic brown rice, lentils, Azuki red beans, mung beans, and shiitake mushroom.

Earth Spring Farm:  Salad cut: baby arugula, lettuce mi,x and premium greens mix. Radishes: watermelon, black Spanish, daikon, Easter egg, spicy shunkyu, and red cherry. Greens: red lettuce heads, collards, mustards, braising mix, mizuna, kales, chard, cabbage, blue and green broccoli Raab, lots of fresh and sweet Bok choi. Herbs: chives, sorrel and fennel. Other veggies: Carrots, beets, purple top turnips, scarlet and sweet Hakueri turnips.

Quaker Valley Orchards: Honeycrisp, crimson crisp, stayman, cameo, golden delicious , candy crisp, jonagold , Fuji, York imperial, pink ladies, granny smith, and nittany apples.  Fresh cider, jam, apple sauce and butter, honey, tomato sauce, and sauerkraut.  Their pumpkins great for soups and desserts, winter squash, onions, potatoes and gourds.  This week you can buy a crate of apples for $25 to stock up for winter!  Store in a dark, cool, and dry place!

Reid’s Orchard:  Apples (Honeycrisp, Gala, Macoun, Gold Supreme, Fuji, Yataka, Pinova, Jonathan, Jonagold, Empire, Smokehouse, Red Delicious,  Stayman, Nittany, Pink Lady…and more!),  Cider (Pear, Apple, Apple Cherry, Apple Grape, Honeycrisp).

Atwater’s Bread: Naturally leavened, hand shaped loaves like Irish Brown, Peasant Wheat, Sunflower Flex, Sesame Wheat, Struan, Ten Grain, Spelt, Olive, Caraway Rye, Raisin Pumpernickel, Raisin Walnut, Cranberry Pecan, Jalapeno Cheddar, Catonsville Sourdough, Rosemary Italian, Country White, Ciabatta, baguettes. Groff’s Content Farm:  Beef: steaks, short ribs, roasts, jerky, ground beef. Lamb. Most pork cuts. Eggs. Complete raw meat dog food. Tallow soaps.

Spring Gap Mountain Creamery: This is our cheese mongers last week!!  Fresh from Paw Paw, WV, four cheeses: Jersey Gold Gouda, Shenandoah Sunrise tomme, Sophie’s Select cheddar, Farmhouse Feta, and Bloomery, their version of Camembert.

Truck Patch Farms:  Lettuce spring mix, arugula, kale, swiss chard, purslane, red beets, heirloom tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, cabbage, cauliflower, and melons.

Truck Patch Meat Department:  Andouille sausage this week! Plus, smoked sausage- Applewurst, Country, Ground, Italian hot and sweet, Maple, Sage. Bacon, smoked maple, garlic, and pepper. All cuts of pork. Shoulder roast bone-in and boneless, Shoulder chops, Ribs, and Hams steaks. Whole chickens as well as parts. Turkey all parts and ground. Turkey burgers, white and dark meat. Eggs.

Richfield Farm:  All types and varieties of tomatoes, including cherry regular and heirloom varieties, Silver King Corn, watermelons, cantaloupes, hot and sweet peppers, eggplant, squash, onions, cucumbers, and several varieties of beans.

Craft Kombucha: Washington D.C.’s neighborhood kombucha brewery, Craft Kombucha brings balance to your life and your body. this weekends’ flavor lineup will feature two selections from our Fall Flavor Series, Pumpkin Spice and Apple-Cherry Cider.

Number 1 Sons:  As we move into fall and the cucumber supply starts getting hairy. You’ll be seeing more beans and brassicas at Number 1 Sons. The second planting cucumbers we have gotten have been especially crisp and tasty. The half sours this weekend are great! Enojy them as the cucumber season wraps up. We’ve also begun bringing our slightly sweetened take on bread and butter pickles, Sweet Slices are made with with Potomac Vegetable Farm’s crisp and sweet red pepper slices for hearty fall sandwhiches. Teeny Pies: Apple cranberry, Pumpkin, Bourbon bacon pecan, and Shepherd’s pie this week.
